The Daily Point Headers

2016-blue-fridayToday’s #BlueFriday segment honoring local law enforcement was special and slightly different.  We honored a local hero, recognized the struggle that some departments are having recruiting new cops given the media climate promoting an anti-cop sentiment.

The Daily Point Headers

Earlier this week I had the opportunity to have a down to earth, not PC, honest conversation with some young men from Winslow Twp. NJ. Their actions inspired our latest  honoree for #BlueFriday. I asked them questions that you don’t often hear during an exchange between the media and activists. Especially when one is white and the other is black. The answers from these courageous, intelligent and thoughtful men may surprise you. Happy I’m able to continue the dialogue with Andre and Nigel. And yes, this is another example of life truly being about “the small stuff”.

The Daily Point Headers

Blue Friday LogoToday’s #BlueFriday honoree is the Director of Public Safety in Newark, Anthony Ambrose.  Leading a police force in any major city is a huge undertaking.  In a dangerous city like Newark it’s especially trying.  Decades of failed leadership and increasing crime have hurt local residents. I’ve often talked about solutions that go back to successful models of city policing from the past couple decades.  Looks like the team in Newark are starting to make some headway.

The Daily Point Headers

IMG_0531Blue Friday LogoLast week I had the honor of speaking to a group of Police Officers and Firefighters for the ‘Union County 200 Club’ annual awards luncheon.  Invited by Somerville Mayor Brian Gallagher, I spoke mainly about the meaning of valor, courage and sacrifice.  When a former Olympic champion gets an award for ‘Courage’ based on making a decision to reject his birth gender and go through numerous alterations in order to ‘become a woman’, the very meaning of the word is lost

I was honored for honoring cops: #BlueFriday

I want to build a different narrative about police officers than the one often we often see in the media, which is why I created #BlueFriday. I dedicated every Friday to celebrating New Jersey police officers as my New Year’ resolution.

And last night, I was humbled and honored to be recognized for that effort. The Local Fraternal Order of Police South Jersey Lodge No. 56 presented me with a certificate “in recognition of your courage to speak out in support of law enforcement throughout New Jersey and beyond.”

Blue Friday LogoToday we took the time to honor the three Clifton NJ police officers who risked their own lives to save four motorists involved in a single car crash from a car engulfed in flames.  The officers, Owen Curry, Jermaine Burgess and Frank Castro joined me on the radio this morning to discuss what happened.  I even received a call later in the morning from Officer Curry’s mother-in-law who called to thank us for honoring the officers and for hosting #BlueFriday every week.

The Daily Point Headers

Blue Friday LogoThis morning as we do every Friday on New Jersey 101.5 and on Chasing News. we honored a member of New Jersey’s law enforcement community.  Today’s honoree is Sgt. Greg Bogert who has been serving as a member of the Riverdale Police Department for the past 18 years.  Responding to a call for a possible suicide attempt on a bridge on Route 287, he acted so quickly going on instinct that he was able to stop the man from jumping.  The video speaks for itself.

The Daily Point HeadersBlue Friday LogoEvery Friday on my morning radio show on New Jersey 101.5 FM I dedicate time to honor the men and women in Law Enforcement.  My goal is to offer a counter to what seems is a cultural norm of spreading fear and hatred about police officers.  Many Hollywood elites and groups like Black Lives Matters have pushed a narrative about police brutality that really doesn’t add up when you look at the facts and the sheer number of times law enforcement interacts with the public.  Bottom line is that although there are prosecutable incidents, for the most part cops are out there every day, standing up for the community, solving problems and taking criminals off the streets.
