No I haven’t bought a grill yet. But I looked at this as an opportunity to go beyond the traditional BBQ methods over the long weekend! Not having a grill made me seek alternatives for the Memorial Day meal…and I think we had a winner. Pulled pork & rabe sandwiches, deviled eggs, sweet & spicy beans and ribs.
It’s Memorial Day weekend. Time to take advantage of a three day weekend and enjoy family, friends and hopefully take a moment to acknowledge those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. I thought I’d take the space today to talk about the holiday, it’s real meaning and the way you can honor the fallen. You already know I served for eight years in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves, but my sacrifice was minimal. I never had to endure the rigors, stress and violence of combat. Although many of the men I served with did. For you guys, Ellicott, Trimmer, Maziarz, Harper, Berezny and the many others who stayed in long after I was honorably discharged, enjoy the long weekend. Your commitment to our nation is exemplary and your patriotism unmatched. Semper Fi Marines.
Yesterday the Governor of New Jersey appeared, as he does once a month, on New Jersey 101.5 FM “Ask The Governor”. Governor Christie covered everything from taxes to Atlantic City and took calls from listeners. Thought I’d write about a funny sidebar conversation that the Governor got into after asking Eric how my ratings were doing on the morning show.
He’s apparently a fan of the show and if I heard him correctly referred to my performance as “Hot Stuff”. He also joked about spilling the beans on my exclusive interview this morning and made it clear that he and Eric Scott are more interesting, in fact may be the two most interesting people in New Jersey!
Yes, if you’ve been listening to me for the past few months you know that one of my favorite convenience stores is Wawa. Finding out that they are adding locations in New Jersey was welcome news for sure. One of my favorite items at Wawa is the soft pretzels:
C’mon. As you know, I use @Twitter for everything. It’s my news feed, my main source of daily expression and communication tool with listeners, viewers and friends. One of the main reason it works is because if you haven’t noticed, I like to talk. Every morning I go for four hours on the radio and then spend a couple hours taping Chasing News, again, more talking. The editors at Chasing News have a daily battle trying to fit my intro’s for segments into the show and my commentary on certain stories, because, well, I and sometimes long -winded. I like to think it’s because I’m well researched and thorough. Toe-may-toe…toe-mah-toe…
Hope you had a great weekend that helped you prepare for the week ahead. In our reality show and live stream obsessed culture, I’ve been pulled completely in and in addition to work, I now find myself live-streaming certain events over the weekend. Although I thought about live streaming our family paintball outing…between the mud, rain and people sending paint downrange, I thought that may not work out well for me or my phone. If you haven’t tried paintball, do it. It’s fun, engaging and a great way to spend a few hours on a weekend. But don’t let them tell you it doesn’t hurt, cuz it most certainly does. The pro tip is to wear gloves..even if it’s hot.

Today at Chasing News was dedicated to appreciate our “Preditor” team. The guys that edit and produce segments making our show a fast-paced, exciting, balanced and entertaining success. Media personalities who appear on TV and radio always have a strong team of people working hard, usually long hours after the host has left for the day to ensure the best possible product makes the air. At Chasing News, our staff of producer/editors is certainly no exception. John Flanagan, Chris Gurtlinger, Matthew Lauyer, Diana Acosta, Michael Coleman, Sergio Cruel, Ricky Lorenzo, Nicole Peraino and our newest team member Tyler Larm all combine for one of the best production teams in television. These guys work at lightning speed, making sense of all the scripts, video and conversation in the room creating a segment that is ready for prime time.

It’s been several years since I had ‘words’ with a fellow coach in my son’s football league over the use of the name ‘Redskins’. I’ve always contended that the people supposedly being protected from the use of what some call “offensive, racist, bigoted” actually have no issue with the name at all. At first I referenced the report about the Navajo “Talkers” coming out in favor of the name. Then today I saw the poll reported in the Washington Post showing that 9 in 10 Native Americans have no issue with the name. Right, 9 in 10.
Had a great time last night at the Trenton Thunder ball park throwing out the first pitch and enjoying the “Ballpark Jersey Fusion” cuisine, which I just made up, but think it might stick as a hashtag, #BallparkJerseyFusion. Ok, hot dogs and pork roll. Really though, first class stadium food.

And for some of the items, bacon is added making everything better. The best thing on the menu and quite possibly the best thing I’ve eaten all week was the “Pig Pen” which is a combo of mashed potatoes, pork roll, bacon AND pulled pork. I think that Jessica Nutt from Chasing News would agree, although both of us loved the pork roll version of the Philly Cheesesteak…because, well, cheese whiz…some of which did end up on the floor…sorry guys. Yes, the feast took place in the broadcast booth which I think we completely disrupted. Although both broadcasters, Adam and Jon were good sports and let the GM Jeff know that we should be invited back, apparently this was the only time they were allowed to eat in the booth. Anyway, it was a great time and compared to the time and money families spend on major league games, the best bang for your sports entertainment buck.
